About

I’m Ingrid André (she/her), an artist, practitioner and dancer with a dedication to embodied practice as possible micro-political engagement/resistance. Based in Helsinki, I work at the intersection of dance, art-based research and Perceptual Pedagogy, and my practice moves back and forth between the archival body and the laboratory-potential body.

I’m interested in bringing embodied practices into dialogue with art, dance, education and philosophy, and in seeing what can emerge where they meet. At the moment I’m researching the micro-political scope of somatic practices. I’m curious about challenging familiar perceptions and representations, finding ways to disrupt dominant patterns, and reflecting on our shared becoming, from intimate awareness of the living body toward unknown terrains.

Teaching and facilitation

I teach and facilitate at Hesperia Therapy Practices and Artfysio, and I’m an assistant teacher at École Belge de Pédagogie Perceptive in Brussels. I was a guest teacher at Aalto University, where I gave workshops for Experimental Design Master’s students (2024), and a guest speaker-performer at Kasvatustiede Forum, Tekstintalo, in a performance-conference event on Apollonian and Dionysian principles in education (April 2026).

Recent projects

LA MER LA NUIT is a duo research-performance with performer Thierry Heynderickx. It was presented at Festival Corps Complices, Galerie Michel Journiac, École d’Art de la Sorbonne, Paris (March 2025), organised by philosopher Barbara Formis and artists Pascale Weber and Davide Napoli.

Intimations and, and, and was a solo exhibition of soft sculptures and an accompanying journal at Kääntöpaikka Gallery, Helsinki (2022–23).

Recent work as a dancer

I danced in A Human Ensemble, an ensemble piece for nine dancers choreographed by Karolina Ginman, at CIRKO Helsinki (2020) and Draamasali Vaasa (2023).

Path

After studying dance in Belgium and at Balettakademien Stockholm, I worked for several years as a professional dancer with Skånes Dansteater (Malmö), Karolina Ginman (Helsinki), AMGOD collective (Brussels) and Philip Egli Company (Zürich). In 2006 I moved to Helsinki, where I became a mother.

I later returned to studying art at Art School MAA, looking for new ways to frame the invisible interplay between corporeality and society. I recently completed a University Diploma in Perceptual Pedagogy at Pessoa University, Portugal, which helped me weave my different practices and personal history into a more coherent field between the intimate body and the world. I’m currently a Master’s student at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki.

Education

I studied at the Conservatoire de la Danse in Namur (Belgium), Balettakademien in Stockholm (Sweden) and Art School MAA (Finland). I hold a University Diploma in Perceptual Pedagogy from Pessoa University, Porto (Portugal), and completed the course Gender Practices in Educational, Therapeutic, Medical and Societal Frameworks at Université Paris Cité. I’m currently enrolled in the interdisciplinary Master’s CRASH at Metropolia University, Helsinki.

Activism

I volunteer as a practitioner and researcher with Mouvement d’Elles (France), an association offering Full Presence practice to women who have experienced gender-based violence. I contribute to developing protocols and free online resources to support survivors. I have also volunteered as an intern at MIELI Without Borders (Finland), bringing embodied artistic practices to support mental health in a democratic framework (2024).
